It doesn’t matter if you’re filming an independent investigative movie or a big-budget documentary series: from context-providing tracking shots to emotional close-ups, the language of television requires a strong tone of voice and clear aesthetic choices. We need stylistic strength to help viewers understand the meaning of our work, and keep their eyes glued to the screen. When editorial formats standardise, both in terms of length and dimensions, how can we navigate these canons to find opportunities, aesthetically- and also ethically-wise?
